Martha Katz Accepts Appointment with Healthcare Georgia Foundation

                            Former Deputy Director of Policy and Legislation for the Centers for Disease                                Control and Prevention to Direct the Foundation’s Health Policy Programs
 

ATLANTA, GA, March 6, 2003 – Healthcare Georgia Foundation today announced the appointment of Martha Katz as the Foundation’s Director of Health Policy. As the Foundation’s liaison, Martha will work closely with grantees, elected officials, industry associations as well as public and private organizations to help raise the level of awareness regarding health issues in Georgia. In addition, Martha will support the development and presentation of nonpartisan policy research and monitor relevant legislation.

Martha began her career in public health working in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she was responsible for developing the first Healthy People report, published in 1980.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Martha served as the Deputy Director for Policy and Legislation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ms. Katz was a member of the agency’s senior executive management team overseeing the CDC’s 8,000 employees and $7.5 billion annual budget. In addition to advising the CDC’s director on complex policy and legislative aspects of the agency’s public health activities, Ms. Katz’s specific responsibilities included leading and coordinating the CDC’s legislative initiatives, health communications programs and relationships with external partners.
