Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces $643,500 in Grants
to 12 Organizations and Programs

Foundation completes 2011 grantmaking of $3.8 Million

Atlanta, GA – January 11, 2012 - Healthcare Georgia Foundation today announced $643,500 in grant awards to twelve organizations and programs. Included in the Foundation’s grant awards is support for the health policy and advocacy work that is critically needed in Georgia. According to Gary D. Nelson, foundation president, “Champions for better health and healthcare for Georgia’s undeserved individuals, families, and communities have made remarkable progress in communicating the needs of vulnerable populations while advancing solutions that benefit all Georgians.”

Recent grant awards have also highlighted the Foundation’s interest in childhood vaccinations, Georgia’s uninsured children and families, health of Georgia’s Hispanic and Latino populations, and high quality mental health and behavioral health services.

The grant awards are as follows:

Foothills Area Health Education Center (AHEC) $24,000
Support for the production of six HealthTecdl programs for the Healthcare Georgia Foundation distance learning program.    
 
Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, Inc. $16,000
Support to conduct research and analysis of the state budget and tax policies as they relate to health care.    
 
Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Inc. $12,000
Support for the continuation of the 2010 funded Healthcare Georgia Foundation Capacity Building Program.    
 
Georgia Women for a Change, Inc. $12,500
Support for the 2012 Georgia Women's Policy Institute.    
 
Georgians for a Healthy Future $105,000
Support to increase organizational capacity to provide consumer health advocacy work in Georgia.    
 
Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia, Inc. $150,000
Support to develop the 2012 Georgia Latino Health Report and to host a second Latino Health Summit in Georgia.    
 
Magnolia Coastlands Area Health Education Center (AHEC) $24,000
Support for the production of six HealthTecdl programs for the Healthcare Georgia Foundation distance learning program.    
 
National Mental Health Association of Georgia $5,000
Support for personnel, and direct operating costs associated with mental health education, outreach, and advocacy.    
 
Pediatric Foundation of Georgia $3,000
Support for a “Vaccine Hesitancy Seminar" to be held November 3, 2011 at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta.    
 
Southeast Georgia Communities Project $100,000
Support for the diabetes prevention program and organizational capacity.    
 
Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center, Inc. (SOWEGA-AHEC) $24,000
Support for the production of six HealthTecdl programs for the Healthcare Georgia Foundation distance learning program.    
 
Three Rivers AHEC $24,000
Support for the production of six HealthTecdl programs for the Healthcare Georgia Foundation distance learning program.
