Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces Changes to Board of Directors
Atlanta, GA – February 04, 2016 - Healthcare Georgia Foundation today announced that it had named Dr. Robert Nesbit (Augusta, GA) board chair and appointed Dr. Alpha Bryan (Jonesboro, GA) to the board.
About Robert R. Nesbit, Jr. MD, FACS
Robert R. Nesbit, Jr. M.D., FACS is Professor Emeritus of Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. A graduate of Harvard College and of the University of Rochester School of Medicine (where he did his surgical training), he joined the MCG faculty in 1974. Dr. Nesbit was Chief of Surgical Services at VAMC Augusta from 1983 to 1995 and Chief of the Section of Vascular Surgery at MCG from 1994 until he took early retirement in 2000. Since leaving clinical practice he has been active in pre-clinical teaching as well as being the Director of Student Education for the MCG Department of Surgery. Dr. Nesbit has been President of the Association of V.A. Surgeons, Chair of the Clerkship Directors Committee of the Association for Surgical Education and is on the editorial board of WISE MD, the Web Initiative for Surgical Education. He has also had a long interest in medical history and has been President of the Southern Association for the History of Medicine and Science and is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Osler Society.
About Alpha Fowler Bryan, MD
Alpha Fowler Bryan, MD, is a native of Texas who served as the Medical Director for the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation in Centreville, Illinois (1985). In 1991, Dr. Bryan became the Director of the St. Louis County Department of Health and provided management oversight for the county’s largest department. After four years, she became Vice President for Medicaid HMO services for the Barnes-Jewish-Christian Healthcare System. Following that role, she was appointed Deputy Director for Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. In 1998, she became Assistant Division Director for the Department of Human Resources, and has since served as the District Health Director in Cobb-Doulgas. She currently serves as the District Health Director for the Clayton County Board of Health. Dr. Bryan received her undergraduate degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee and received her M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College (Nashville, TN) and completed her a residency in Family Practice in St. Louis, Missouri.
