Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces $471,900 in Grant Awards

Grants reflect Foundation’s ongoing role in
improving health outcomes

Atlanta, Georgia – July 16, 2009 - Healthcare Georgia Foundation today announced grant awards totaling $471,900 to 16 organizations and programs in efforts to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for all Georgians. The grant awards reflect the Foundation’s catalytic role in promoting programs and policies that improve health outcomes.

The awards are as follows:

Berrien County Collaborative, Inc. $50,000
Implement capacity building activities to develop a school-based health clinic in Berrien County, GA.    
 
Camp Twin Lakes $5,000
Support for a Camp Director for Camp New Hope.    
 
Experion Healthcare Group $4,900
Develop a concept paper on hospital community benefits.    
 
FCS Urban Ministries $7,000
Analyze and present the results of the third survey of Healthcare Georgia Foundation applicants and grantees.    
 
GEARS, Global Evaluation & Applied Research Solutions, Inc. $3,000
Conduct an environmental scan, research and produce a concept paper on the promising practices and/or evidence-based strategies for addressing health disparities and options for future investments as it relates to capacity building.    
 
Georgia Budget and Policy Institute $250,000
Conduct research and analysis of state budget and tax policies, with attention to health care policy.    
 
Georgia Hospital Association Research & Education Foundation $10,000
Provide training and technical assistance to hospitals in Georgia to apply for funding opportunities that may be available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act(ARRA).    
 
Georgia Rural Health Association $2,500
Support to establish a telehealth advisory committee and to submit a grant proposal in response to a national Request for Proposal in support of rural health technology.    
 
Georgia Southern University, Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health $100,000
Design a cross-site and site specific evaluation of the Georgia Childhood Asthma Management Program designed to improve asthma outcomes among Georgia's children and adolescent populations.    
 
Georgia State University Research Foundation $7,500
Support to engage in a six-month exploration of the needs of Atlanta’s safety net providers.    
 
Grantmakers in Aging, Inc. $10,500
Plan and convene two sessions on healthy aging at the 2009 Council on Foundations Annual Meeting including a site session at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on May 4, 2009.    
 
Grantmakers in Health $2,500
Conference support for the GIH annual meeting on health philanthropy scheduled for March 18-20, 2009 in New Orleans, LA.    
 
Grantmakers in Health $4,000
Provide core operating support for the provision of the following services, program and activities during 2009: annual meeting on health philanthropy, audio conferences, issue dialogues, issue networks, GIH bulletin, etc.    
 
Morehouse School of Medicine $3,000
Conduct an environmental scan, research and produce a concept paper on the promising practices and/or evidence-based strategies for addressing health disparities and options for future investments as it relates to capacity building.    
 
National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention $3,000
Support to serve as a conference convener/liaison to the 2009 Council on Foundations annual meeting and site session at CDC on May 4, 2009.    
 
The Schapiro Group, Inc. $9,000
Support to design, conduct, analyze and report the results of key informant interviews for the purpose of gathering information on the status and viability of integrating primary care and mental health in Georgia.
