Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces $274,050 in Grants to Fifteen Organizations

Grants feature the continued support of
HealthTecdl, distance learning for nonprofit health organizations and the healthcare workforce, and publications in support of health professionals

Atlanta, GA – June 05, 2014 - Healthcare Georgia Foundation announced fifteen grants which represent a continuation of work already underway to connect people, programs and resources across Georgia to improve health and healthcare. “Over the past seven years, our capacity building efforts have included HealthTecdl, the Foundation’s distance learning program, which has delivered more than 200 unique programs to thousands of participants from nonprofit health organizations and the healthcare workforce,” said Gary D. Nelson, PhD, president, Healthcare Georgia Foundation.

Nelson continued, “The development and dissemination of high quality resources and publications is critical to health professionals, given a healthcare environment that is uncertain, disruptive and chaotic. We find that these programs are very well received, especially at a time when professional development resources and opportunities are particularly limited.”

The grant awards are as follows:

Avatar Communications, Inc. $40,000
Support to sustain and continue the marketing and communication efforts Healthcare Georgia Foundation’s Distance Learning program, HealthTecdl. (Augmentation)    
 
Emory University $50,000
Support to develop professional-quality video modules to train Board of Health (BOH) members in Georgia to effectively fulfill their critical roles in public health governance.    
 
Experion Healthcare Group $3,000
Support to develop and publish a technical manual on working with "outside evaluators."    
 
Foothills Area Health Education Center (AHEC) $20,000
Support for participation in HealthTecdl, to produce five distance learning programs designed to strengthen Georgia’s health care workforce, and to sustain internal distance learning capabilities.    
 
Georgia Charitable Care Network $10,000
Support to plan, design and evaluate three HealthTecdl webinar programs focused on safety net clinic leadership and operation issues.    
 
Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth (GPT) $10,000
Support to plan, design and evaluate two additional HealthTecdl webinar programs focused on telehealth education. (Augmentation)    
 
Georgia Public Health Association $15,000
Support for the GPHA 85th Annual Meeting and Conference, March 10-11, 2014 in Atlanta Georgia.    
 
Georgia Rural Health Association $20,000
Support for participation in HealthTecdl, including the production of five distance learning programs designed to strengthen Georgia’s health care workforce.    
 
Grantmakers for Effective Organizations $3,050
Support for 2014 annual membership.    
 
Grantmakers in Health $12,000
Support for its 2014 Annual Meeting on Health Philanthropy-"The Power of Voice" to be held in Atlanta March 5-7, 2014.    
 
Magnolia Coastlands Area Health Education Center (AHEC) $20,000
Support for participation in HealthTecdl, including the production of five distance learning programs designed to strengthen Georgia’s health care workforce and to sustain its internal distance learning capabilities.    
 
Messages of Empowerment Productions $3,000
Support to develop and publish a technical manual on best practices in the evaluation of community-based programs focusing on underserved populations.    
 
Southeastern Council of Foundations $8,000
Support for 2014 membership and the Conference on Investing.    
 
Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center, Inc. (SOWGA-AHEC) $20,000
Support for participation in HealthTecdl, including the production of five distance learning programs designed to strengthen Georgia’s health care workforce and to sustain its internal distance learning capabilities.    
 
TechBridge $40,000
Support for the technology implementation, network management, network maintenance, program support and training efforts for the use of Healthcare Georgia Foundation’s Distance Learning program, HealthTecdl. (Augmentation)
