Healthcare Georgia Foundation Names Diane Weems, MD, as Board Chair

Foundation also elects Scott Kroell to board of directors

Atlanta, GA – March 27, 2014 - Healthcare Georgia Foundation announced the appointment of Diane Weems, MD, as board chair and added Scott Kroell (Hinesville, GA) to its Board of Directors.  

About Diane Weems, MD 
Diane Weems, MD, is the District Health Director for the Coastal Health District. A board certified pediatrician, Weems received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida. She began her public health career at the Lowndes County Health Department in 1986, and relocated to the Chatham County Health Department in 1987 as a staff physician. Weems served as the Chief Medical Officer for the health district (1993 – 2013) until she was appointed District Health Director in February 2013. She also serves as chair and founding member of the Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council, and is the past chair of the Community Health Mission Board and the Savannah Chapter of the American Red Cross. Dr. Weems also served as a Governor’s appointee and co-chair of the Public Health Commission in 2010 whose report was instrumental in supporting the establishment of an independent Department of Public Health. Weems is the recipient of the 2011 Georgia Public Health Association’s Sellers-McCroan Award and the Al Dohany Award for community service.  She is a member of Georgia Public Health Association, the Georgia Medical Society, National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

About H. Scott Kroell, Jr., MHA, FACHE, LNHA
Scott Kroell is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, Georgia - a Joint Commission Accredited Critical Access Hospital; Coastal Manor - a 108 Bed Long Term Care Facility located in Ludowici, Georgia; and the Liberty Regional Emergency Medical Service - a two-county Emergency Medical Service serving Liberty and Long counties. He received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, his Master of Health Administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta and is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. He was active in the United States Navy Reserve and retired as a Captain after 28 years of service. Mr. Kroell’s professional affiliations include Chair Elect of the Southeast Georgia Cancer Coalition, Vice Chair of the Liberty County, Georgia Board of Health and Board Member of the Georgia Board of Nursing Home Administrators.
